By Diamond Smith + Shatira Jackson, Betamore’s YouthWorks Interns

Who are you?

Hey, my name is Diamond Smith. The name of my school is Youth in Transition school. I’m 19 years old and a rising 12 grader. I like to cut hair, go shopping and also help with a Boys & Girls Club. What I want to do for my career is be a nurse. I love helping people out. My second option is to be a lawyer. I also have a third option, and that is to be a forensic scientist. I also have  been with Youth Works for 8 years and I love being in this program. I work with many kids and help them be a better person. They learn so much from me, but I also learn so much about different people. I love meeting new people and one day I want to own my own business and be the best in what I do.

Just for fun…

Aquarium or Zoo? I would love to go to the Baltimore Zoo.
Facebook or Instagram? I have an Instagram.
Shopping or Traveling? I love going shopping and I would love to explore  different countries outside the USA.
Movies or Books? I like to read books and go to the movies.
Reese’s or SweetTarts? Reese’s are my favorite candy!

Who are you?

I’m Shatira, I attend Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School. I am 18 years old and I am going to the 11th grade this year. Outside of school, I like to hang out downtown with my friends. I used to want to be a nurse, so if my mom or I got sick, I could take care of both of us. My current career choice is to work in a hair shop, so I’m studying cosmetology.

What are you doing here?

During my internship here at Betamore, I would like to learn about social media and marketing in order to join a startup company. I would also love to learn how to build my own website!

The YouthWorks slogan “Summer Jobs Launch Careers” describes the lasting effect that a productive summer job can have on a young person. Through targeted matching of jobs to older teens’ career interests and an emphasis on effective work behaviors and financial literacy for all participants, YouthWorks is sure to be a success this summer and beyond as it helps prepare our future workforce.
