Riskive, Maryland’s 2013 Cyber Incubator Company of the Year, graduates from Betamore

Federal Hill-based tech campus Betamore, recognized in the Baltimore tech community for its award-winning startup incubator, is pleased to announce cybersecurity startup Riskive has graduated.

Riskive has seen great success while at Betamore with its flagship product, Friendguard. Friendguard is a social risk management tool that can help users of social media protect themselves from hacking attempts and control their online social presence.

Several highlight milestones were reached by Riskive, like hosting Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, who visited the startup campus last January as part of a discussion on accelerating startup growth in Maryland. In June, Riskive received nods as the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association’s hot TechBuzz Champion beating over 300 other regional startups. Riskive was mentioned as one of five cyber companies to watch by the Baltimore Business Journal and was named Innovator of the Year by the Daily Record. In late July, these milestones culminated in Riskive receiving the state’s largest seed round this year of $2.2M. Genacast Ventures in partnership with Comcast Ventures and Core Capital lead the round that enabled the company to hire more employees and begin looking into dedicated office space.

“Riskive was our first tenant and quickly grew to be our largest company,” said Mike Brenner, CEO of Betamore, who accepted the Maryland Incubator Company of the Year award alongside Riskive CEO James C. Foster. “It’s bittersweet to see our first graduate leave the incubator but I look forward to watching this game-changing company’s continued growth,” said Brenner. “Most forget that Betamore is a startup company who only opened their doors about a year ago too. The time, effort, and attention they provide to each company within their space is unparalleled in this industry. They are truly dedicated to ensuring that you are happy and able to focus on your core business objectives. Simply stated – the team is outstanding and we can’t thank them enough.” Said James C. Foster, CEO of Riskive.

Riskive hasn’t flown too far from the nest though, in fact they’ve just moved into an 8,000+ sqft office space one floor below Betamore at 1111 Light Street, at the intersection of Cross Street and Light Street near the historic Cross Street Market. This choice of location continues to solidify Federal Hill as a thriving neighborhood for tech startups and innovation.
